Flight Simulation goes back to the DC-3

We all all adore aircraft and here at Astrasim Expo our own hopes have also been satisfied with the all brand new iconic DC-3 which is celebrating its 75th birthday this year. This amazing aircraft is going to soon be seen in the virtual skies of Flight Simulator X.

This amazing bundle will feature the classic Douglas DC-3, the USAAF’s C-47 and the Royal Air Force Dakota.

The various models will be clothed with a selection of realistic liveries and the award-winning development team is leaving no stone unturned in it’s drive to produce the best simulated DC-3 ever built.

The Douglas DC-3 is an American fixed-wing, propeller-driven aircraft whose speed as well as range changed air travel in the 1930s and 1940s. Because of its enduring influence on the air travel industry and World War 2 it is commonly deemed as one of the most important transport aircraft ever manufactured. Numerous DC-3s are even now implemented to this day in all parts of the world.

The DC-3 had been manufactured by a team led by chief engineer Arthur E. Raymond and first flew on December seventeen, 1935 (the 32nd anniversary of the Wright Brothers’ flight at Kitty Hawk). The actual airplane was the end result regarding a marathon phone call from American Airlines CEO Cyrus Smith to Donald Douglas asking for the design and style of an improved successor to the DC-2. The features of the DC-3 (this includes sleeping berths in early “DST”—Douglas Sleeper Transport—models and an in-flight kitchen) made popular air travel in the United States.

Total manufacturing of the DC-3 had been 16,079. More than 400 continued to be in commercial service in 1998. By the early 1950s, some DC-3s were improved to benefit from Rolls-Royce Dart as in the Conroy Turbo Three, Armstrong Siddeley Mamba, or Pratt & Whitney PT6A turbines.

In 1987, Airtech Canada offered aircraft re-engined with current-production PZL ASz-62IT radial engines of 1,000 hp (746 kW) as the DC-3/2000.

The DC-3 is a well-liked choice for flight simmers, taking everyone back to a golden era of flight.
