Between 1927 and 2009, Piper Aircraft Inc. has produced 160 certified types of plane.  Those models have generated 144,000 units, of which 90,000 continue to fly to this day.  Even though business had several difficulties over the years, they’ve nevertheless managed to remain afloat and continue the Piper name.  But just how much is known about the historical past of the organisation and where it all began?

The company previously known as Taylor Brothers Aircraft Corporation was in the beginning owned and managed by a couple of brothers – Clarence Gilbert Taylor and Gordon A. Taylor.  The brothers created the company in September 1927 aided by the help and investment of local businesspeople, which included William T. Piper.

Sadly in 1930, the brothers filed for bankruptcy, but Piper was around to purchase the assets for $761 and keep the company running.  In those days, it had been situated at a large manufacturing facility in Bradford, Pennsylvania.  More bad luck struck, and the Bradford factory was burned down.  Piper made a decision to go to an empty mill in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania and renamed the organisation Piper Aircraft Corporation.

Up to now, there have been numerous name variations – Taylor Brothers Aircraft Corporation to Piper Aircraft Corporation to New Piper Aircraft to Piper Aircraft Inc., and this is the current name.  However, the company’s production standards have never suffered.

Piper Archer – this all metal, unpressurised four seat plane is ideal for leisure use, and features exactly the same single door design as the Piper Cherokee.  Nowadays, it continues to have good resale value

Piper Cheyenne – this turboprop plane made by Piper Aircraft Inc. was noted for its corporate styling, which makes it a popular choice for business travellers
